Burg Ertingen

Burg Ertingen stands on a spur of land about 700 metres south of the village of Ertingen in the Biberach district of Baden-Württemberg. Built in the 11th century by the Lutram family, later known as Leutrum von Ertingen, the castle was first recorded in 1100 and destroyed in 1350. The Grüningen-Landau family later became owners. Today, nothing remains of the original structure. The Leutrum von Ertingen noble family originated here, giving their name to the site. Their influence shaped local history for centuries. The site’s brief but significant past reflects the turbulent power struggles of medieval Swabia. Historians still reference the family’s role in regional conflicts and alliances. Visitors find a quiet hilltop with no visible ruins, only open fields and distant views over the surrounding countryside. The location offers a peaceful spot to imagine the castle’s former presence. A short walk from Ertingen, it provides a sense of medieval landscape unchanged by modern development. The absence of structures makes the site feel more like a memory than a monument.
