Burg Binzwangen

The Burg Binzwangen stands on a high plateau above the Binzwangen district of Ertingen in Baden-Württemberg. It rises about 573 metres above sea level and overlooks the local church. The site was once a spur castle, built on a narrow ridge that juts out from the surrounding land. The castle was first mentioned in 1241 and was constructed by the Lords of Binzwangen. Today, nothing remains of the original structure. The site’s history is tied to the noble family who gave it their name. The Lords of Binzwangen played a small but recorded part in the region’s medieval past. Their castle once commanded views over the surrounding countryside. Archaeologists have found traces of its foundations, though no visible ruins survive. The location remains a quiet reminder of a 13th-century stronghold. Visitors find a peaceful spot on the plateau, with open fields stretching beyond. The church below marks the heart of Binzwangen. A short walk leads to the spot where the castle once stood. The view takes in the gentle hills of Oberschwaben. The place feels remote, yet it is close to the village. The absence of walls makes the site feel open and uncluttered.
