Shepherd's Bush Market tube station

Shepherd’s Bush Market station stands beside the open-air market that gives it its name, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The station sits on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, between Goldhawk Road and Wood Lane. It opened in 1864 as part of the Metropolitan Railway’s extension to Hammersmith. The original station closed in 1914 and was replaced by two new stations, one of which became the present Shepherd’s Bush Market station. In 2008 the station was renamed to avoid confusion with two nearby stations on other lines. The market has traded along the railway since 1914, when it moved to the strip beside the tracks. The market runs parallel to the Hammersmith & City line and is also served at its far end by Goldhawk Road station. Nearby are the Bush Theatre, the Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Loftus Road Stadium. Two large shopping centres, Westfield and West12, lie within walking distance of the station. Visitors find a busy station at the western end of Shepherd’s Bush Green. The market offers stalls selling food, clothing and household goods under striped awnings. Trains run frequently towards central London and Hammersmith, making it easy to reach other parts of the city. The station’s platforms still show signs of the Metropolitan Railway’s style from the 1930s.
