Burg Hohenhundersingen

The ruins of Hohenhundersingen castle stand on a rocky outcrop 675 metres above sea level, overlooking the Lauter valley near Münsingen. Built around 1100 by the local noble family, it was first recorded in 1237 and destroyed in 1530. After passing to Württemberg in 1352, it was held by the lords of Bichishausen until its fall. The remains include a keep built with massive ashlar blocks and fragments of an outer ward with curtain walls. A defensive ditch cuts off the spur where the castle once stood. The site offers a clear view of the surrounding Swabian Alb landscape. Visitors reach the ruins along well-marked footpaths starting in Hundersingen. The exposed rock and surviving masonry give a sense of the fortress’s former strength. The quiet hilltop setting contrasts with the steep climb required to reach it.
