Milton Keynes Theatre

Milton Keynes Theatre stands in the centre of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. It opened in 1999 after a campaign that lasted twenty-five years. The building was designed by Blonski-Heard with Kut Nadiadi and Robert Doe. The architects used the latest construction methods and advanced equipment. The auditorium can change shape for different shows. The theatre hosts large West End productions and smaller dramas. It also presents touring opera, ballet and Christmas pantomimes. The seating moves to allow audiences from 900 to 1,400 people. Arup Acoustics tested the ceiling’s effect on sound using a 1:50 scale model. The theatre is run by the Ambassador Theatre Group. Inside, the auditorium’s ceiling rises or lowers to suit each production. Seats shift to create different layouts. The acoustics adapt to the space automatically. Visitors find a wide programme of touring shows throughout the year. The building remains one of the region’s main cultural venues.
