Bruderkogel

The Bruderkogel rises to 2,299 metres in the Rottenmann Tauern range of the Austrian Alps. It sits on a south-easterly ridge that splits off from the nearby Zinkenkogel, with the Schüttnerkogel to its north-west and the Korbachkogel to its south-east. Two short spurs, Salzlecken and Schafgupf, branch away from the summit block. The north-west slopes drop into the Lackneralm valley, while the south-west faces the Pfarreralmkar and the east faces the Reslergraben. Climbers reach the top by three marked routes. One trail, numbered 947, starts from Sankt Johann am Tauern in the valley below. Another 947 branch begins at Hohentauern village further east. A more direct, unmarked crest route links the Bruderkogel to the Schüttnerkogel to the north-west. At the summit visitors find open rock slabs and a modest cairn. The view stretches across the Rottenmann Tauern peaks and down to the valleys of the Mur and Liesing rivers. On clear days the Dachstein massif and the Niedere Tauern are also visible. The ridge walk rewards hikers with long, uninterrupted alpine vistas.
