Moss Rose

Moss Rose is a football stadium in Macclesfield, Cheshire. It stands one mile south of the town centre on the west side of the A523 London Road. Built in 1891, it is one of England’s oldest grounds. The stadium was home to Macclesfield Town F.C. until the club was wound up in September 2020. Macclesfield F.C. now plays there after a local businessman bought the assets and rebranded the club. The ground has hosted Football League matches. Chester City played home games here between 1990 and 1992 while moving to the Deva Stadium. Arsenal visited in a League Cup tie and won 1–0. Macclesfield Town finally entered the Football League in 1997 after meeting new stadium requirements. In 2026 part of the stadium was damaged by fire in a suspected arson attack. The stadium has four stands. The Main Stand on the east side holds home supporters, with extra space for large away followings in the terraced northern end. The Star Lane End on the south side is for home fans. The Moss Lane Stand on the west side is all-seated and covered, while the Silkmen Terrace at the north end is an open away section. Wet weather often makes the terrace uncomfortable for visiting supporters.
