Moffat Museum

Moffat Museum stands in the heart of Moffat, a town in Dumfries and Galloway. It began in 1984 in the Old Moffat Bakehouse, a building with its own baking past. In 2013 the museum moved into a second building next door and added a small courtyard behind. The displays cover farming, local trades and crafts, sports, education and the Hydropathic Hotel and Spa. A model railway runs through one room and there are panels about Moffat’s railway station. The exhibits bring the town’s history to life through objects and stories. Farming tools show how people worked the land for centuries. Craftsmen’s tools recall the trades that once filled the High Street. Sports displays mention curling, cycling and the annual Moffat Games. Schoolroom desks and books give a sense of 19th-century education. The Hydropathic Hotel section explains how visitors once came for water cures. Visitors find two floors of rooms filled with cases and panels. The ground floor shows farming life and local industries. Upstairs, sports trophies and school records line the walls. A corner houses the model railway with miniature stations and trains. Outside, the courtyard offers a quiet place to sit. The museum keeps the town’s memories alive for new generations.
