22 Bishopsgate

22 Bishopsgate is a 278-metre office tower in the City of London’s financial quarter. It stands on Bishopsgate, replacing an earlier plan for a taller skyscraper called The Pinnacle. Construction began in 2008 but was paused during the Great Recession. The project restarted with a simpler design and was completed in 2020. It is now the second tallest building in the United Kingdom. The Saudi Economic Development Corporation and Arab Investments funded much of the construction. The building’s design evolved after public objections over potential loss of light. Original plans included a twisting roof and a public viewing platform at the top. The final design removed the complex exterior but kept the height close to the original. The tower now provides 88,000 square metres of office space.
