Schloss Pemfling

Schloss Pemfling stands in the village of Pemfling in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. It began as a lowland castle beside the church square and once formed part of a larger medieval estate. The surviving buildings include parts of the late Gothic structure and traces of older phases recorded as monuments. The site is worth visiting for its layered history reaching back to the 12th century. The Pemflinger family, ministerial knights, appear in records from 1178 onwards, and the castle appears on a map by Philipp Apian in 1568. A fire in 1742 reshaped the main dwelling, which later became an inn. Today two separate buildings remain on the north side of the church square. To the west stands the long, two-storey farm wing with a vaulted carriageway and remnants of a medieval stable. To the east is the former main house, now a farmstead, whose thick walls and 16th-century windows recall its origins as a fortified residence and chapel.
