Voldöppberg

The Voldöppberg, also called Brandenberger Joch, stands at 1,509 metres in the Brandenberger Alps. It is the westernmost peak of the Pendlingzug, the eastern part of this mountain group. The mountain overlooks the valley of the Brandenberger Ache, a tributary of the Inn. Its slopes form a clear landmark above the villages of Kramsach and Brandenberg. The summit carries a simple wooden cross, placed by local walkers. Walkers reach the top on well-marked paths from two directions. One route starts in Kramsach and passes the Bärengrube, a rocky hollow named for bears once seen there. Another starts in Brandenberg and climbs past the Heumöser Alm, a summer pasture where cattle graze on alpine meadows. Both routes are graded moderate and take between three and four hours. The final section is a broad ridge with views west to the Karwendel range. At the top the cross is set on a small flat area of grass and dwarf pine. Walkers sit on the rocks and look down on the Brandenberger Ache valley. In clear weather the Inn valley and the city of Wörgl can be seen to the north. The contrast between the quiet summit and the busy valley below is striking. The mountain remains a favourite among local hikers for its short but satisfying climb.
