Burgstall Mallersricht

The Burgstall Mallersricht stands on a southern spur of a hill 494 metres above sea level, about 500 metres east-north-east of Mallersricht village. A deep ditch up to five metres wide cuts the spur from the hill behind, followed by a rampart eighty metres long, eight metres wide and rising 1.8 metres above the ground. The jump in height from the bottom of the ditch to the top of the rampart is 2.6 metres. The rampart, made of granite rubble, bends sharply on the east side and slopes gently on the west. In 1950 a section twenty metres long was levelled to build a guest house, but the building has since been removed. The site is listed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation as a medieval earthwork under number D-3-6338-0007. Visitors walk along the surviving rampart and look down into the ditch below. The granite rubble is still visible in places, and the eastern curve of the bank is the most pronounced feature. From the spur the land falls away to the village and surrounding woodland, giving a clear view of the countryside.
