Webster Vienna Private University

Webster Vienna Private University stands in a historic palace in central Vienna. Palais Wenkheim, built in the 19th century, houses the campus near the city centre. The building was renovated to provide modern facilities across more than 5,000 square metres. Its location close to major transport links makes it easy to reach from across the city. The university is a private American institution, distinct from its parent in St Louis. It follows a Humboldtian model, combining teaching with faculty research. The university is recognised for several firsts in Austria. It became the first private higher education provider in the country. Webster Vienna was also the first to offer dual US-Austrian degree accreditation and taught entirely in English from the start. In 1985 it launched the first accredited Master of Business Administration programme in Austria. The institution has been led by prominent figures, including Elisabeth Chopin, the first woman to direct an Austrian university. Honorary doctorates have been awarded to figures such as Simon Wiesenthal and Philip Zimbardo. Visitors find a modern campus inside the historic palace. The building contains classrooms, seminar rooms and technical equipment spread over multiple floors. Students come from over 70 countries, creating a diverse community. More than 20 student clubs organise events, debates and sports activities. Graduation ceremonies take place each May in the Hofburg, with guest speakers addressing the new graduates. The university’s international network allows students to study at other Webster campuses around the world.
