Tufnell Park tube station

Tufnell Park is a London Underground station in the north London borough of Islington, near the boundary with Camden. It sits on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line, between Archway and Kentish Town stations. The station serves the Tufnell Park neighbourhood in London fare zone two. Passenger Operated Ticket Machines stand at the entrance. Two lifts connect the street level with the platform, though passengers must use stairs to reach the trains. The station opened in June 1907 under the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway. Its original building, designed by architect Leslie Green, features glazed terracotta tiling from the Leeds Fireclay Company. In 2004, the station was modernised with new communication systems, retiling and ceilings. Ticket gates were added later. A large industrial ventilation fan, part of London Underground’s Cooling the Tube project, runs year-round to keep the station cool. The southbound platform lies lower than the northbound one. London Buses serve the station day and night. The station closed between June 2015 and March 2016 for lift replacements. It has no physical connection to nearby Junction Road railway station despite their close proximity.
