Rois-bheinn

Rois-bheinn is a mountain in the Moidart region of the Scottish Highlands. It shares the title of highest hill in Moidart with its neighbour Beinn Odhar Bheag. The name Rois-bheinn comes from the nearby village of Roshven, which adapted the mountain’s name phonetically. The mountain can be reached from Roshven to the west or from Inverailort to the north. The Moidart peninsula lies south of Loch Eilt, a deep pass that separates it from the lands to the north. Rois-bheinn stands out among British hills for its prominence. The climb from Roshven follows a clear west ridge to the summit. The route from Inverailort crosses rougher terrain but offers different views. The mountain’s shared height with Beinn Odhar Bheag makes it a point of interest for hillwalkers. Its position on the Moidart peninsula adds to its appeal. On the summit, walkers find a small cairn marking the highest point. The view stretches over Loch Eilt and the surrounding glens. To the west, the landscape opens toward the sea. The contrast between the deep pass of the loch and the open hills creates a striking scene. The climb rewards effort with wide, quiet horizons.
