Stiolo

Stiolo is a small village in Emilia-Romagna, about 12.5 kilometres from Reggio Emilia and 14 from Modena. It sits along the SP50 road between Rubiera and San Martino in Rio. The area is known for producing Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The village has ancient roots, first mentioned in a 10th-century document from Emperor Otto I. Its church, dedicated to San Damaso, dates back to this time. The parish church still stands today, with a bell tower containing four bells cast in 1947 by the De Poli foundry. Visitors find a quiet rural setting with a historic church at its centre. The bell tower’s bells mark the hours over the surrounding countryside. The village remains tied to its farming traditions, including cheese production. Its small size and peaceful atmosphere offer a glimpse of traditional Italian village life.
