Haynes Motor Museum

Haynes Motor Museum stands in Sparkford, a village near Yeovil in Somerset. It occupies a former sawmill that John Harold Haynes bought in 1984. The site opened in July 1985 with just 35 cars. Between 2012 and 2014 the museum was rebuilt to add new halls, a shop, café and conference rooms. A sweeping white and red frontage now marks the entrance. John Haynes, who founded the Haynes Manuals business, died in 2019. The collection numbers more than 300 cars and motorcycles. Fifteen themed exhibitions tell stories of design, racing and everyday travel. British Icons looks at the people behind famous British cars. The Red Room holds red sports cars such as a 1981 Lamborghini Countach and a 1959 Austin-Healey Sprite. The Dawn of Motoring displays a replica 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen. Visitors find a wide range of vehicles from different eras. The American Dream includes a rare 1931 Duesenberg J. Williams F1: The Drivers and The Driven features an FW14 Formula 1 car. Life on Two Wheels traces 150 years of British motorcycling. Transitions explores sustainable motoring with a wooden concept car. The museum has also appeared in television dramas and comedy shows.
