Fraochaidh

Fraochaidh is a mountain top reached on the route from Loch Linnhe to Loch Etive in the Scottish Highlands. It stands at grid reference NN029517 and bears a small cairn on its summit. The hill is classified as a Marilyn, a Corbett and a HuMP, terms used by hill-walkers to mark prominence and relative height. Its height was last remeasured on 28 October 2001. Several organisations keep and verify these lists on the Database of British and Irish Hills. The name is sought in its original Gaelic form, and any local knowledge is welcomed. Visitors walk the intervening ridges and glens between the two lochs. The final climb is short but steep, rewarding the walker with wide views across the surrounding ranges. The cairn marks the highest point, where the wind often blows and the silence is deep.
