Dorback Burn

The Dorback Burn is a river in the Highlands of Scotland. It begins at the north-east end of Lochindorb and flows north-east for several miles. The Anaboard Burn joins it near where the A939 and A940 roads meet. The Dorback then runs alongside the A940 before the River Divie joins from the east. Their waters flow on for a few more miles to enter the Findhorn. The river is recognised in Scottish Gaelic as Dorbag or Uisge Dhorbaig. Lochindorb itself lies near the ruins of a 13th-century castle on an island. The landscape around the burn is part of the wider Findhorn valley, known for its quiet glens and moorland. The burn’s course is lined with heather and birch, typical of the region’s upland scenery. It is one of many tributaries that shape the Findhorn’s flow through the Cairngorms. A visitor can walk along parts of the Dorback Burn where it runs close to roads. The route offers views of Lochindorb and its castle ruins. The surrounding hills rise gently, covered in heather and grass. The burn’s waters are clear and shallow in places, with small cascades where the land slopes. The area is quiet, with few buildings nearby, making it a peaceful spot in the Highlands.
