Schloss Nudersdorf

Schloss Nudersdorf stands in the village of Nudersdorf, now part of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt. Built in the 18th century, it replaced an earlier estate damaged during the Thirty Years War. The present building shows the style of Wilhelm Heinrich Löser, who completed its outer form in 1703. After changing hands among Saxon nobles, it became a Prussian estate in 1815. Later owners turned part of it into a spa fed by a sulphur spring discovered on the grounds. The castle’s history is marked by notable figures such as the lawyer Gregorius Brück, who received the estate in 1548, and the Leyser family who rebuilt it after wartime destruction. In the 19th century the Luther brothers, both doctors, created a bathing house here that drew visitors for decades. Since 1945 the building has served the community, first as a school and later as offices and a youth club. Visitors today find a two-storey baroque manor with a symmetrical façade and a central entrance. The former spa wing still contains the tiled pool lined with the mineral-rich water. The courtyard is paved and framed by low outbuildings. Every summer a festival recalls the estate’s past, while inside classrooms and clubrooms show how the building continues to serve the village.
