Faochaig

Faochaig is a mountain top reached on the route from Killilan to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. It stands at grid reference NH021317 and bears a small cairn on its summit. The mountain is classified as a Marilyn, a Corbett and a HuMP, terms used by hill-walking groups to describe prominence and relative height. Several organisations maintain and verify these lists, which are published on the Database of British and Irish Hills. The last precise measurement of its height was carried out on 15 January 2003. The summit is recognised for its clear views across the surrounding glens and lochs. Walkers often combine it with nearby peaks such as Sgùrr a’ Mhuilinn or Beinn na h-Eaglaise. Its modest height makes it accessible to many, yet it still offers a satisfying climb with a sense of remoteness. The route from Killilan follows forest tracks before opening onto open moorland. At the top, visitors find the cairn and a wide panorama of the northern Highlands. The landscape stretches towards the Moray Firth and the distant peaks of the Monadhliath Mountains. The air is fresh and the silence broken only by the wind across the heather. The return walk can be extended to explore the glen or shortened by descending a different path.
