Carnan Cruithneachd

Carnan Cruithneachd is a mountain top in the Highlands, reached along the route from Loch Duich to Cannich. Its summit bears a small cairn, a simple stone heap marking the highest point. The mountain stands in wild country where red deer graze on the lower slopes and golden eagles circle above. The peak is listed as a Marilyn, a Graham and a HuMP, special categories that recognise its height and prominence. Organisations such as the Database of British and Irish Hills measure, verify and collect these lists. The last precise survey of its height was completed in October 2001. Visitors find open moorland and rocky ridges leading to the cairn. From the top there are wide views across Glen Affric and the Five Sisters of Kintail. The air is clear, carrying the scent of heather and the distant call of a stag.
