Gleirschbach

The Gleirschbach is a mountain river in the Austrian Alps, flowing through the Tyrol region. It begins near the Pfeishütte alpine hut and runs for about twelve kilometres before joining the Isar. Nearly eight of those kilometres pass through the city of Innsbruck. Along its course it is joined by the Angerbach, a short tributary that rises on the northern slopes of the Nordkette ridge. The river is known for its exceptionally pure water, graded A for quality. Rafting enthusiasts travel to the Gleirschbach for its fast-flowing sections and clear mountain water. The valley through which it runs, the Hinterau, is a quiet upland landscape of meadows and forests. Visitors follow forest paths beside the Gleirschbach to reach the Möslalm and the Pfeishütte. The river’s banks offer places to rest and watch the water tumble over rocks. In summer the valley is a starting point for hikes into the Nordkette range.
