Spielberghorn

The Spielberghorn is a mountain peak in the Austrian Alps, standing 2,044 metres above sea level. It rises 724 metres above the surrounding terrain and has a broad base stretching 12.8 kilometres wide. The mountain lies in the Zell am See district of Salzburg, 290 kilometres west of Vienna. Its slopes shift from gentle hills in the northwest to rugged peaks in the southeast. The nearest town, Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, sits 16.1 kilometres to the east. The area around the Spielberghorn is lightly populated, with only 34 people per square kilometre. Forests of mixed trees cover most of the lower slopes, giving way to rocky outcrops higher up. The contrast between the dense woodland and open alpine zones creates varied landscapes. The mountain’s isolation and height make it a quiet retreat from nearby towns. Its position in the central Alps offers views across Salzburg and into neighbouring regions. Visitors find well-marked paths winding through the mixed forests and open meadows. The trails lead to viewpoints where the surrounding peaks and valleys unfold. The contrast between the green lower slopes and the bare summit draws walkers and photographers. The area remains peaceful, with few crowds even in summer. The mountain’s quiet presence makes it a place for reflection and simple enjoyment of the high Alpine world.
