Lerchkogel
The Lärchkogel is a 1,688-metre peak in the Vorkarwendel, a foothill range of the Karwendel mountains. It stands on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol. The summit is reached by a straightforward hike from Fall via the Lärchkogel-Hochleger alpine pasture. The climb takes about three hours and the descent about two, covering roughly 900 metres of elevation. An alternative route starts from the Tölzer Hütte mountain hut. The mountain is known for its clear views across the valley and into the Karwendel main range. On the upper slopes grow scattered larch trees that give the peak its name. The route passes through alpine meadows rich in wildflowers during summer. Walkers often spot chamois and marmots among the rocks. The summit itself is marked by a simple metal cross. At the top visitors find a small plateau with panoramic views in all directions. To the north the valley of the Isar stretches away towards Bad Tölz. To the south the rugged peaks of the Karwendel rise sharply. The alpine pasture below offers a place to rest before the descent. The whole route is graded as moderate and suited to fit walkers with basic equipment.
