Ehemalige Kirche

The Weinkirche Jetzelsdorf stands in the heart of Jetzelsdorf, a village in Lower Austria. It was once a Catholic parish church dedicated to the Virgin Mary before being secularised in 1976. Today the building serves as a wine shop and event hall, protected as a listed monument. The church was built in the 18th century as part of Emperor Joseph II’s parish reforms. After the original chapel proved too small, a new parish church was constructed in 1975–76 and the old one was left empty. Plans to demolish it ended when a bypass removed the traffic hazard in the 1990s. Local people restored the building, turning it into a Vinothek that also hosts concerts and gatherings. The exterior shows a simple west-facing façade with a triangular gable, a small bell tower and round-arched windows fitted with iron grilles. Inside, the flat ceiling rests on a moulded cornice while the choir is gently curved. A 19th-century sacristy on the south side and a projecting porch with a half-cone roof complete the modest but harmonious design.
