Pfarrkirche Jetzelsdorf

The parish church in Jetzelsdorf stands in the eastern part of the village in Haugsdorf municipality, Hollabrunn district, Lower Austria. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and Saint Benedict. The parish itself dates from 1784, when it was separated from Pfaffendorf and placed under Stift Göttweig. The present building replaced an earlier church in 1975–76. Architect Hans Hoffmann designed a square central plan with a pyramid roof and concrete entrance screens that suggest a tower. Inside, the roof structure is left open above diagonal concrete beams, while the sacristy and porch occupy the corners. Much of the furnishings come from the old church, including a baroque high-altar cross reworked in the 1930s and a figure of the Immaculate Conception from the early 18th century. The josephine baptismal font has a bulbous baluster bowl. A new organ was installed in 1986 by Friedrich Heftner. The simple, modern lines of the exterior contrast with the historic fittings preserved within.
