Convalmore

Convalmore distillery stands in Dufftown in Moray, on Speyside in Scotland. It was built in the 1890s and ran until the mid-1980s, making single malt whisky for almost a century. The buildings sit beside the Conval hills, which gave the place its name. After it closed, the site was bought by William Grant & Sons in 1992. Today the old distillery forms part of a larger complex that also includes Glenfiddich and Balvenie. The site has been important in the whisky industry for more than a hundred years. Convalmore-Glenlivet Distillers started it in the 1890s, and in 1904 W&P Lowrie & Co took over. Scottish Malt Distillers and The Distillers Company ran it from 1925 until closure. Though the stills are silent, the warehouses remain in use. William Grant & Sons enlarged their storage there after 1992. Visitors find a quiet corner of Dufftown where whisky once filled the air. The old malt barns and kilns still stand among modern warehouses. The Conval hills rise just north of the buildings, framing the view. The site links directly to Glenfiddich and Balvenie, so a walk passes between three distilleries. The name Convalmore survives on labels even though the distillery no longer makes spirit.
