St. Paul (Pichling in Linz)

St. Paul zu Pichling is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Pichling district of Linz, Upper Austria. It also serves the local Russian Orthodox community. The church stands in a quiet residential area surrounded by modern housing and small gardens. The church was built between 1988 and 1990 to designs by architect Anton Zemann. Earlier, in 1941, a chaplaincy had been founded by the mother parish of Ebelsberg, and in 1967 it became a parish expositur. The interior was fitted out by artist Peter Dimmel, while the stained-glass windows were created by Silvia Kropfreiter. Inside, the main space has an open ceiling and an octagonal plan. A low, irregularly shaped sacristy leads off one side. The weekday chapel shares the same octagonal form. The entrance front features a gabled porch supported by columns. Outside, a detached bell tower rises with a pyramid roof on pillars. Above the altar hangs a 19th-century crucifix.
