Lehár Villa

Lehár Villa stands beside the River Traun in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria. The composer Franz Lehár bought the house in 1912 from the Duchess of Sabran and spent every summer there until his death in 1948. He once said that all his best ideas came while he was in Ischl. The villa has been kept much as it was during his lifetime, with furniture and objects in their original places. Inside the villa visitors find personal souvenirs and paintings that Lehár collected over the years. A small museum inside the building displays further items connected with his life and work. The rooms still contain the composer’s own belongings, arranged exactly where he left them. The building itself is a quiet reminder of the musical world that once centred on Bad Ischl. Outside, the villa overlooks the flowing Traun and the town beyond. The setting is calm, with views across the river and the surrounding countryside.
