Bauernhaus-Museum Wolfegg
The Bauernhaus-Museum Wolfegg stands on twelve hectares near Wolfegg in the Ravensburg district. It is a farm museum made up of more than twenty historic buildings brought from Upper Swabia and the Württemberg Allgäu. The site also includes farm animals that live on the open land. The museum opened in 1978 after a support group was founded in 1976 to preserve rural culture. Early buildings included a fisherman’s house and a granary. By the mid-1990s more farmyards were moved here and everyday objects were collected. In 1991 the grounds grew when nearby fields were added, allowing the buildings to sit in a recreated cultural landscape. Visitors walk past numbered buildings that show how people once lived and worked. Traditional crops grow in fields and animals such as geese, ducks, goats and local-breed pigs roam the meadows. In summer Allgäu cows graze on the museum’s grassland, completing the view of a working farm from earlier times.
