Burg Neutann
Burg Neutann was a hilltop stronghold built by the Schenken of Schmalegg and first recorded in 1318 as ‘niuwen Tanne’. Today the village of Neutann lies in the Ravensburg district of Baden-Württemberg, where the vanished fortress has been replaced by Neutanner Schloss. The castle was later used as a care home until 2016. The site sits on a gentle rise above the surrounding farmland, giving views across the valley towards the Alps. Its name recalls the dense fir woods that once covered the area. The present building keeps the old tower as part of its western wing. Inside, wide corridors lead to rooms once filled with the sounds of daily care. Visitors walk through the quiet courtyard and enter the former chapel on the ground floor. From the upper windows they look out over rolling meadows and distant villages. The old well in the courtyard still holds water. A short path behind the house follows the line of the medieval ramparts to a viewpoint over the valley.
