Lehmberg

The Lehmberg stands near Salzburg, a forested summit rising between the Wallersee, Irrsee and Thalgau. It forms the central point of the Kolomansberg massif, a group of Flysch hills in the northern Alps. The Kolomanstaferl, a landmark just east of the peak, marks the border between Salzburg and Upper Austria. The geology here shows folded layers of Cretaceous flysch, with older Zementmergel series to the north and east. Three streams flow from the slopes: the Fischbach to the Mondsee, the Hausstätter Graben to the Irrsee, and the Steinbach to the Wallersee. This ridge also divides waters flowing to the Salzach from those reaching the Traun. Visitors find gentle forest tracks and marked paths such as the Arnoweg and Via Nova crossing the crest. Along the ridge stand old boundary crosses and the Kolomanstaferl, a wayside shrine to Saint Koloman. Below, in the Totenbretter-Wald, painted wooden memorial boards still hang on the trees.
