Stubenkogel

Stubenkogel is a mountain peak in the Austrian Alps. It stands in the Zell am See district of Salzburg province, 300 km west of Vienna. The summit reaches 2,144 metres above sea level. The land around it rises steeply in all directions. Nearby Mittersill, the closest town, lies 6.1 km to the north. The area has few permanent residents, with only 29 people per square kilometre. The mountain sits within a wide expanse of open grassland. The grasslands stretch across the high ground and continue down the lower slopes. There are no forests or large buildings on the peak itself. The terrain remains rugged and uneven all the way to the top. The nearest settlements are small villages scattered through the valleys. Visitors reach the area by following paths that climb from the valleys below. The grasslands provide clear views of the surrounding peaks. The air is thin and cool even in summer. The silence is broken only by the wind and occasional bird calls. The summit offers a wide outlook over the Hohe Tauern range to the south.
