Leitachkogel

The Leitachkogel is a mountain peak in the federal state of Salzburg. It stands in the Zell am See district, 300 kilometres west of Vienna. The summit rises 2,728 metres above sea level. The terrain around the Leitachkogel is mainly very rugged and steep. The nearest larger settlement is Mittersill, nine and a half kilometres to the north. The Leitachkogel is part of a largely uninhabited landscape. The area has only 29 inhabitants per square kilometre. Grassland covers most of the ground around the mountain. The slopes are covered with alpine meadows and patches of rock. The high altitude keeps trees from growing near the summit. Visitors reach the Leitachkogel by following well-marked mountain paths. The views from the top stretch across the Hohe Tauern range. On clear days the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest peak, can be seen. The grassy ridges and rocky outcrops offer places to rest and take in the scenery. The silence and wide-open spaces make the Leitachkogel a peaceful destination.
