Ben Klibreck

Ben Klibreck is a mountain in central Sutherland, Highland. It stands alone above wide stretches of moorland and heather. The highest point, Meall nan Con, reaches 962 metres and is the second most northerly Munro after Ben Hope. The western slope rises steeply and is covered in heather. The eastern side shows a series of large, grassy corries and is said to have more character. The mountain offers several ways to climb. Routes start from Crask to the south or Altnaharra to the north. The most popular and easiest route begins beside the A836 to the west. Walkers follow Loch nan Uan and then climb steep slopes to the summit ridge. The ridge leads directly to the summit of Meall nan Con. On the summit, wide views stretch across Sutherland’s moorland and hills. The contrast between the steep western slope and the gentler eastern corries is clear. The isolation of Ben Klibreck gives a strong sense of space and quiet. The climb is steady but rewards walkers with open horizons. The mountain’s Gaelic name, Beinn Chlìbric, adds to its remote charm.
