Rosskopfspitze
The Roßkopfspitze rises to 2015 metres in the Karwendel range of northern Tirol. It stands at the northern edge of the Gamsjoch group, its sharp crest forming the high point above the Riß valley. The mountain’s north-east face drops steeply through the Roßwand cliffs to the valley floor far below.
Climbing the Roßkopfspitze is a serious, route-finding challenge that demands scrambling and a head for heights. The only way to the summit follows an unmarked line through rugged terrain above the tree line. No marked paths or huts lead to the top, so parties must be self-sufficient and experienced.
From the summit ridge there are wide views across the Karwendel peaks and deep into the Inn valley. The surrounding limestone walls catch the evening light, turning pale grey and rose. Below, the Riß valley stretches northward toward the Bavarian plain.
