Church of St Michael and All Angels

St Michael and All Angels is a Church of England parish church on Bounds Green Road in Wood Green, part of the London Borough of Haringey. The first building on the site was designed by architects George Gilbert Scott and William Bonython Moffatt and opened in 1844 as a chapel of ease. Structural problems forced a temporary closure in the 1850s before repairs and enlargements between 1865 and 1874. Henry Curzon designed the nave, a chancel was added in 1871, and a tower with spire completed the work in 1874. The church is listed at grade II, recognising its architectural importance. Nikolaus Pevsner included it in his 1951 survey of Middlesex buildings. Albert Pinching’s local history also records the changes made during the 19th century. The building reflects the growth of Wood Green as a suburb in the Victorian period. Inside, visitors find a spacious nave with clear lines and good light. The chancel and tower with spire form a striking outline against the skyline. The grade II listing protects its historic features for future generations. The church stands as a quiet centrepiece in a busy north London neighbourhood.
