Cultural heritage D-7-8227-0041 in Kempten (Allgäu)

Burg Kniebos stands as a medieval site near Kempten in the Allgäu region. It lies about 350 metres east of the village of Kniebos, on the southern slope of Mariaberg above the Pulvermühle. The remains are registered as a monument under the code D-7-8227-0041 by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation. The vanished castle once belonged to the counts of Kempten in the Middle Ages. Historical records note its existence in the 12th and 13th centuries. Archaeologists recognise it today as a Burgstall, a type of ruined castle site with little above-ground structure. Visitors find only grassy mounds and scattered stones marking the former location. The site offers quiet woodland paths and views over the valley below. It is a place for short walks rather than grand ruins. The surrounding Mariaberg area provides gentle slopes and open meadows.
