Schloss Sulzemoos

Schloss Sulzemoos stands in the village of Sulzemoos, south of Munich in Upper Bavaria. It is a protected monument and a site of medieval and early modern remains. The complex includes a square three-storey building with three wings, hipped roofs and the remains of a small corner turret. The castle’s history begins with the lords of Sulzemoos in the late 12th century. After several changes of ownership it was rebuilt in 1546 by Wiguleus Hundt. In 1643 it passed to the prince-bishop of Freising and remained in his family until 1811. A fire during the War of Spanish Succession in 1704 left the building without its finer details. Visitors see a solid three-wing structure arranged around a courtyard. The outer walls enclose the former park. Restoration work has been under way since 1996, revealing more of the 16th- and 17th-century fabric.
