Burg Rottbach
The Burg Rottbach stands on a ridge west of Zötzelhofen, a village in the Maisach municipality. It was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Einsbach and later passed to the Lords of Eisenhofen and, around 1400, to Fürstenfeld Abbey. By the early 15th century the castle had been demolished and nothing of the original structure remains today. The site is now marked only by a small earthwork platform and a few scattered stones. Archaeologists recognise it as a medieval stronghold through pottery fragments and the layout of the surrounding ditches. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Conservation lists the ruin as a protected archaeological site. Visitors walk across a grassy field where the castle once stood. A low mound shows where the main tower once rose, and a shallow trench marks the former defensive ditch. The quiet countryside offers long views over the valley, with no modern buildings in sight. The site is easy to reach along farm tracks from Zötzelhofen.
