Deptford Bridge

Deptford Bridge station stands in Deptford, a district in south-east London. It is an elevated Docklands Light Railway stop above Deptford Creek and the A2 road. The station sits between Greenwich and Elverson Road on the DLR network. It lies on the edge of the Royal Borough of Greenwich near the border with Lewisham. Lewisham College and Deptford market are close by. The station’s platforms run roughly north to south over the A2 and alongside the River Ravensbourne. The station opened in 1999 when the DLR was extended south from Island Gardens to Lewisham. An earlier plan in 1989 proposed a different site called Deptford Creek. A revised design in 1990 suggested an island platform with lifts on both sides of the A2. The current layout uses side platforms and lifts only on the south side. The station was rebuilt to allow longer three-car trains to stop there. A visitor finds two elevated side platforms with trains running every few minutes. Off-peak services run twelve times an hour to Bank and twelve to Lewisham. At peak times the frequency rises to twenty-two trains an hour. Some peak services run to Stratford instead of Bank. London buses routes 47, 53, 177, 453 and the night route N89 serve the station. The view from the platforms looks down on Deptford Creek and the surrounding streets.
