Filialkirche hl. Margaretha, Reifnitz

The small late-Gothic church of St Margaret stands on the foundations of a castle chapel that once served the nearby ruins of Reifnitz Castle in Maria Wörth. Built by the Keutschach family, it was consecrated in 1532 by Abbot Polydorus of Viktring. In 1994 restorers uncovered and rebuilt the original polychrome decoration on the exterior walls. The building combines a tall nave with a five-sided chancel and a wooden roof topped by a slender bell turret. Three Gothic windows, now blocked, light the interior, and a late-Gothic pointed portal opens in the west wall beneath a Baroque porch with a painted ceiling from the 17th century. Inside, a star-ribbed vault spans both nave and chancel, its keystone carved with the Keutschach turnip. The high altar, dated 1639, carries a figure of St Margaret flanked by statues of Sts Sebastian and Matthias. To the left, the 1676 altar of St Anthony holds small statues of Sts Joseph and Zacharias, while the right altar of 1661 displays a relief of the Baptism of Christ. In the chancel a late-Gothic statue of St Margaret stands beside a Mannerist cross from about 1600, and the nave walls hold 19th-century prints and paintings of the same saint.
