Steinhübel
The Steinhübel rises north of Rübenau in the Ore Mountains, its jagged rock outcrop reaching 816.9 metres above sea level. It is the highest point in the Rübenauer Kriegwald and the tallest hill within Olbernhau’s boundaries. The summit is crowned by a rocky platform that offers the only open view in the area. On clear days the outlook stretches far across the landscape. To the southwest the villages of Kühnhaide and Hirtstein appear, while the Fichtelberg at 1,215 metres and the Keilberg at 1,244 metres stand out in the distance. Eastwards the Rübenau district of Kriegwald and the hillside wind turbines come into view, and on the Czech side the Lauschhübel reaches 842 metres. A short walk west-south-west leads to the remains of Ullersdorf, a deserted medieval village founded in the early 13th century. Perched more than 700 metres above sea level, it is the highest surviving settlement remnant from the colonisation period in the Ore Mountains. The path through the surrounding forest adds to the sense of quiet discovery.
