Pfarrkirche Pottenbrunn

The Catholic parish church of St Ulrich stands on the village square in Pottenbrunn, a district of St Pölten in Lower Austria. It is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Ulrich of Augsburg and belongs to the deanery of St Pölten in the diocese of St Pölten. The building is listed as a monument.
The church began as two small churches in the 13th century, one of which became the main parish church in 1623. After damage in the 17th century it was rebuilt in 1730. The upper church was used by Protestants in the 16th century and returned to Catholics after the Counter-Reformation. In 1716 it became the main parish church and was remodelled by Joseph Munggenast from 1729. The north tower was added in 1799 by Joseph Schwerdtfeger and Josef Raimund and raised in 1955. The church once had a walled cemetery, closed in 1820.
The church is a two-aisled Gothic structure with high hipped roofs and a narrow north tower. The walls are of exposed rubble stone. The medieval core dates from about 1400 and has a tall main choir and a recessed south choir, both ending in five-sided apses with stepped buttresses. The pointed windows were later altered to rounded Baroque shapes. Inside, the wide four-bay nave has a net-ribbed vault from the late 16th century. The south aisle opens through broad pointed arches on chamfered piers. The tower projects into the north side of the nave, where a single-bay porch has a cross-ribbed vault. The modern flat-roofed chapel on the south side was added in 1955.
