Benedictine monastery Osnabrück

The Benedictine convent in Osnabrück stands on Hasetorwall, a quiet street in the city centre. Founded in 1854 by nuns from Saint-Omer, it moved to its present site in 1899 after rebuilding on land once occupied by the Nobbenburg. The community grew from a small school for girls to a permanent convent, surviving wars and political upheavals. The convent is home to eighteen Benedictine nuns of the Blessed Sacrament. They run a host-baking workshop, a vestment workshop and a studio for decorating candles. Their work keeps the ancient tradition alive while supporting the community. The building itself reflects the resilience of the sisters, rebuilt after heavy bombing in the 1940s. Inside, visitors find peaceful cloisters and a chapel where the nuns pray daily. The workshops open their doors to show how hosts, vestments and candles are made. Outside, the Hasetorwall garden offers a place to rest beside the old city wall. The convent remains a quiet centre of faith and craftsmanship in Osnabrück.
