Eas Bàn

Eas Bàn stands in the western Highlands near Glen Elchaig, where the land rises steeply and the rivers run fast. It is one of many falls fed by the wet climate that keeps the hills green and the burns full. The name comes from the Gaelic word for waterfall, the common term used across the Highlands. The falls measure among Scotland’s highest single drops, though experts argue over exact rankings. Like other Highland waterfalls, it is formed where hard rock meets softer layers, letting the water plunge in a single leap. The surrounding glen echoes with the sound of rushing water and the calls of ravens overhead. Visitors reach the falls by following a rough path through heather and birch. The final view opens onto a deep pool below the drop, where the water churns white before it quiets downstream. The air is cool and damp, filled with the scent of wet stone and pine.
