Grange Hill tube station

Grange Hill is a London Underground station on the Hainault loop of the Central line. It stands in the parish of Chigwell within Epping Forest, just east of the London Borough of Redbridge boundary. The station sits between Hainault and Chigwell stations, in London fare zone four. It opened in 1903 on the Fairlop Loop line of the Great Eastern Railway. The original building resembled Chigwell station, which still survives largely unchanged. The station closed in 1947 after war damage and reopened the next year for Central line electric services. Its ticket office was rebuilt after a V1 flying bomb destroyed the 1903 structure in July 1944. From the mid-1960s to the early 1990s, the Woodford–Hainault section ran separate three-car trains adapted for automatic operation. These trains tested technology later used on the Victoria line before through services to central London were restored. Passengers find a quiet station with typical off-peak services of three trains each hour to Hainault and Woodford. Morning peak trains also run to West Ruislip. London buses 362 and 462 stop outside. Staff remain on site around the clock to assist travellers, and late-night trains run until midnight.
