Fairlop tube station

Fairlop station stands on the Hainault loop of the Central line, between Barkingside and Hainault. It sits on the north side of Forest Road in the London Borough of Redbridge. The station opened in 1903 as part of the Great Eastern Railway’s Woodford to Ilford branch. In 1923 it became part of the London and North Eastern Railway after the grouping of British railways. Electrified Central line services began here in 1948, following wartime delays. The station retains its Edwardian character, with original canopies still bearing the GER symbol. It has two platforms, each with a waiting room and toilets. A small car park serves passengers arriving by road. London Buses route 462 stops outside, linking Fairlop to nearby areas. Visitors find a quiet, well-preserved station where little has changed since the 1940s. The platforms show signs of their railway past, including the old canopy brackets. The surrounding area is residential, with Forest Road providing a straightforward route to local shops.
