Rossert

The Rossert is a wooded mountain in the Taunus range, part of the Anterior Taunus in Hesse. It rises to 516 metres and forms a protected area with the nearby Hainkopf and Dachsbau. Two hilltops share the name Rossert, while the village of Eppenhain sits between them. The mountain’s name comes from an Old High German word meaning cobblestones. The Rossert offers quiet walking trails through beech and oak woods. Views stretch across the Taunus to Frankfurt on clear days. The protected area is home to rare plants and animals. Walkers often combine a climb with a visit to the village’s old half-timbered houses. Paths lead from Eppenhain up gentle slopes to the hilltops. The highest point has a simple viewing platform. The woods are rich in fungi in autumn. The mountain remains a peaceful spot close to the city.
